Sometimes, believing the lies we tell ourselves is easier than dealing with the truth.

Once, I wanted to die. That was the night I met Guy.
The strange man with flowers stepped from the shadows and saved my life.

Guy. Dimpled smile. Body of a surf god. Smart and funny. Running out of time.

We became travelling companions through life, ticking off items on our bucket lists.

I’d hidden from happiness for years and kept my life under strict control. Guy showed me how to step into the world and experience more,
he brought light into the shadows and helped me through the darkness.
I became Phe again. I lived.

There’s just one problem.

We fell in love and this wasn’t part of our plans.

I thought we could face the future together, but Guy has a secret which changes everything.

First of all this cover of The Same Deep Water is just absolutely gorgeous. If you don’t think that then you are a total idiot…. No offence! Now this book was so totally different than what I’m used to.  It is unique, intriguing and realistic and has a raw portrayal of mental illness. I don’t normally like books like this but that changed soon enough. This book made me think about life and I had so much emotions for the characters in this story. This is my first book of Lisa Swallow and I am over the moon that I got a chance to read it. Phe and Guy’s story was just a fabulous story.

“Fate is a strange creature, drawing together lost souls then stepping back to watch what happens.”

This book starts with Phe, a young woman with severe depression after a life-changing event when she was younger. She does not believe that life is worth living anymore and she is on the brink of suicide. She was about to throw herself of a cliff when a random man appears by her side. Guy saved her that night and he gave her a reason to live by finishing their bucket list together.

“I messaged you every evening so that every time you closed your eyes to sleep, you would know somebody out there cared.”

I can tell you that I nearly put the book down before I actually started it….. because of the way the book started, I mean I don’t like suicide. But somehow Guy pulled me in, the way he saved Phe’s life he kind of made me laugh. I mean here she is trying to jump when he is just talking to her being very annoying asking her things that was really not that important at the time. I can say he sort of annoyed her off the cliff in this endearing kind of way. I needed to know what would happen next I mean what was Guy doing there? Why does he already have a bucket list and why is his time running out?

This book is told in first POV, this book was a thoughtful and a moving read that just pulled me in. Guy and Phe’s relationship was really interesting. These two know that they were at the turning point, but they got closer to one another. I kept reading but I was also dreading to see the truth behind Guy’s illness. I mean when you found out about his truth everything would have changed. Sadly it felt like it took too long to learn all those secrets but I needed to know the answers as well.

“Life goes on.”

The words in the story just flowed wonderfully and just created a wonderful backdrop, which made me feel each emotion that was displayed in this book. If you are looking for a nice quick read that will leave you with a nice warm feeling at the end then I would so recommend that you go grab this book and just dive into The Same Deep Water! Also like I said before this book has an amazing cover!

“You’ve stolen every rational thought in my head and replaced them with dreams of you.”
