From International Best Selling Romance Novelist, Hope Hughes, comes a gripping, heartfelt tale of two lovers, fighting for the freedom to…

No. Scratch that. Too cheesy.

…two people, torn apart by the tumultuous tides of life, only to discover refuge in…

WTF? What does that even mean? DELETE.

…two people, confused as shit as to where they should be and who they should love and none of this means a damn thing because it’s all lies!

Lies.

I’m not Hope Hughes. I’m not some fierce woman romance machine. Hell, I’m not even a woman.

I’m a liar.

And while I refuse to believe my own BS, deceit masked in heartfelt phrases of love and devotion, I want to make her believe them. Because maybe—just maybe—if she can find the soul within my words, she’ll also be able to find the truth scribbled on my heart.

You see, I once lived for the perfect plot twist.

I just never expected to actually live it.

This is my story. Well, maybe her story. I just wish I could make it our story.

The one I’m still writing.

My Thoughts

Original Review on....

S.L. Jennings has done it again…. She has written another fantastic novel with so much depth and emotion. I loved reading every moment of it and when I finished with this novel I just stared out in front of me for a long time. I did not know what to do next that is how much I loved this novel. I actually never thought I would love this novel so much especially with that very vague blurb. One thing I can tell you is that this is not one of those novels where the couple get together after just a few chapters but it is so much more.

80e9e55dcc0b5a12ae8ec8c23b92a001

Now this story is about August and Fiona. They have been best friends for a decade and they are everything to each other – from counsellor, confidant, companion and friend. It’s almost like they can’t live without each other and I wish I had friendship like those two. August who is an author does not believe in love, yet he write only romance novels AND Fiona is a hopeless romantic. The first half of the book was so hilarious and trust me it has a lot off laugh out moments. They have amazing banter and hysterical interactions made me cry with laughter. The second half of the book was more emotional and with more angst. My heart could not take all those emotions in this book yet I still could not put it down. It was so addictive. A lot of times I wanted to smack August and the plot of this novel was so not predictable. You could never guess what would happen next.

img_2469

This story is almost told entirely in August’s point of view and Miss Jennings does a wonderful job at portraying him and trust me he was very complex but also has a great empathetic manner. This novel was angsty and frustrating at times but also sweet and sassy. ARC did frustrate me with his view on love and how it only exists in a person’s mind, but yet I fell hopelessly in love with him through each word he spoke. You will feel so much emotions in this book so trust me you will need a box of tissues with you! Fiona is just as amazing and I wished she was real because she sounds like one amazing friend.

fangirling

Ink & Lies is a book that I would savour forever and when I see the paperback in store, I will make sure I buy it I can’t survive with just the ebook. I need that beautiful cover on my bookcase. I will highly recommend this book to everyone I see. Ink & Lies left me floored and trust me it is a tear jerker! Get off your ass and read this book!

Excerpt

“Yeah, but…” Her eyes grow wide and glossy as she tries to sift through all the reasons why that theory shouldn’t apply to her. In the end, she relies on her heart. “You said I wasn’t like those other women…that those other women weren’t me.”

I should tell her she’s right. I should put her out of her misery and reassure her that the last ten years were as real and meaningful to me as they were for her. That even though I may sling gift-wrapped bullshit for the general public, only she knows the true, honest parts of my heart. But with my tongue possessed by the taste of her rejection, I play the petty card, and do just the opposite.

“I guess I was wrong, especially considering yesterday’s events. Maybe you’re no different from them. And maybe you were right about me…that I do sabotage with sex to keep people at arm’s length. Because in the end, that’s all I want anyway, right?”

“You don’t mean that.”

I nod. “Yeah. I do.”

“So what are you saying?” The hurt is so thick in her throat that I can barely hear the words.

I suck in a breath, and scrub a hand over my forehead. “You were right about me. About us. We shouldn’t have done…what we did. And we can’t move on and pretend that it didn’t change us. What’s done is done.”

“I agree,” she nods, with a tinge of hope in her voice.

“So, maybe we should just see this for what it is—the end. You’re starting your life with Joshua and moving away, and I’m going on with mine.”

“Wait, August. No, that’s not—”

“You didn’t actually think we’d be able to keep this up, did you? What, you thought we’d turn out to be the modern day Cathy and Heathcliff? I’m not some swoony, literary hero, Fi. I’m not here to rescue you from your shitty love life that stems from your shitty childhood.”

“I never said you were—”

I’m rambling, spewing verbal diarrhea all over her blue cashmere, but I can’t stop. I can’t shut off the bile that has been choking me since this morning when she disclosed her impending nuptials. “You have Joshua. He’s the one you chose. He’s the one you want. You made that perfectly clear. So what the fuck do you need with me?”

“I thought we were friends, August. I thought you and me were—”

“Well, I guess you were wrong. Friends don’t fuck each other and then five minutes later get engaged. And why would you want to be friends with some empty, misogynistic prick like me anyway?”

“I-I didn’t mean,” her voice cracks, and the first tear escapes. She quickly dashes it away, refusing to let me play witness to her weakness. But I’ve already seen it. I share that very same weakness that has her bottom lip trembling. I’m just too much of a coward to show it.

“Look, I’m sorry. I think we just need a break.”

“A break. Yes,” she nods, dashing away tears. “You’re right. We both said things we shouldn’t have. Let’s just take a few days to…”

“No. A break from this,” I clarify, gesturing between us. “From us. This isn’t working anymore.”

“You’re being melodramatic, August. We’ve had fights before. We’ve said things we didn’t mean, and we always were able to work it out.”

I shake my head and look away, refusing to acknowledge the dejection on her face. “But I meant everything I said.”

This no-holds barred, sexy New York Times bestseller pushes the envelope like no other novel has as it spins the titillating, enticing tale of one man who teaches women everything they need to know to make their partners happy in the bedroom…while making their own wildest fantasies come true.

Right now, you’re probably asking yourself two things: Who am I? And, what the hell are you doing here? Let’s start with the most obvious question, shall we?

You’re here, ladies, because you can’t f*ck.

Oh, stop it. Don’t cringe. No one under the age of 80 clutches their pearls. You might as well get used to it, because for the next six weeks, you’re going to hear that word a lot. And you’re going to say it a lot. Go ahead, try it out on your tongue. F*ck. F***ck. Ok, good. Now where were we? If you enrolled yourself in this program then you are wholly aware that you’re a lousy lay. Good for you. Admitting it is half the battle. For those of you that have been sent here by your husband or significant other, dry your tears and get over it. You’ve been given a gift, ladies. The gift of mind-blowing, wall-climbing, multiple-orgasm-inducing sex. You have the opportunity to f*ck like a porn star. And I guarantee, you will when I’m done with you.

And who am I? Well, for the next six weeks, I will be your lover, your teacher, your best friend, and your worst enemy. Your every-f*cking-thing. I’m the one who is going to save your relationship and your sex life.

I am Justice Drake.

And I turn housewives into whores. Now…who’s first?

I didn’t know what to think about the book’s blurb but trust me when I say I was intrigued. This is different from normal blurb but it was quite fitting for this plot! I honestly had a hard time rating this book. I do not know how I should feel about it. I know many readers adored this novel and I see why but I just was not won over by this book as I thought I should be.

I did find that this book was an okay read, I mean I can’t state otherwise or it will be a huge lie. It is always refreshing to read in a male’s POV. I don’t read a lot of books that is in a male’s POV.  Justice Drake is an interesting character, quite believable and he was not boring at all. Sadly it took me longer than I thought it would to warm up to him fully. Also I did not like Ally at first. Sadly I felt like the first half dragged a bit. I kept turning the page hoping for something fun and hot to happen between Ally and Justice. It just seemed to take forever. What I did enjoy was the two together and they had great chemistry. I liked that Justice liked Ally for who she was and he did not want to change her with his goofiness and all.

I just found that Taint was a bit unrealistic. I mean in what world it would be okay if your husband sends his wife away for six weeks to get sex lessons from a total stranger. If I were that women then I would divorce my husband as soon he made that suggestion. All in all I found Taint a okay read. Did I hate it? No but I did not love it and that was a bummer because I wanted to love it.

This is one of those books that had me torn, on one hand I wanted to hate it but I just couldn’t do that. Miss Jennings just weaves a wonderful story with love and hate, there is a fine line between love and hate. Miss Jennings took this book to a place I was not expecting, and I did not see that ending coming. I wished the ending could have been different but upon reflection the ending fitted the characters. Let me tell you this was one HOT read! Tryst was smoking hot and I fell in love with Ransom. This is not you normal romance novel though. Tryst definitely plays on your emotions and has your heart slip between two men.

If you were given a pass to sleep with your celebrity crush would you? Now this is what Heidi struggles with. It makes you think at what you would do if you are married. Would you sleep with a rock star if they said OK? This book is an emotional roller-coaster that will take you on a high, twist you heart around and letting you think WTF. Heidi is a New York City publicist working with some high profile clients. When her and her husband, Tucker are invited to a party never in a million years did she think the one person at the top of her celebrity “hall pass” list would be in bed with her. Ransom Reed just oozes sex appeal. Now Heidi and Tucker has been married for 10 years but something is missing.

Tucker is the perfect husband and he makes Heidi feel loved and cherished but when Heidi, Tucker and Ransom meet at a party the sexual chemistry between Heidi and Ransom is off the charts! After the drinks are flowing and the normal inhibitions are let down, Tucker suggests to Heidi the unthinkable, the pass to sleep with Ransom as long as he dictates what happens. This scene is SO UNBELIEVABLE HOT!! But what was supposed to be just one night turns into something more. Heidi is hired to be Ransom’s publicist and unfortunately for her, she cannot stop thinking about that night and she isn’t the only one. Heidi is married and is in love with her husband but a part of her soul was left with Ransom. When Ransom goes all rock star mode and trashes a bar, Heidi and his manager decide he needs to detox and clear his mind. Heidi just happens to have Justice Drake as a client and knows his compound has state of the art security and is an exclusive escape. After what happened with Ransom, she also thought it would be good for her and Tucker time to reconnect.

With all that emotion still fresh between Heidi and Ransom, she knows she needs to make things right with Tucker. She loves him and knows she belongs with Tucker but can she get past what she identifies with Ransom….. That you need to see for yourself 😛 As always this author just writes amazing hot books and I really can’t wait for more books from her.

EXCERPT

“I dare you…to let me touch your wife.”

An audible gasp escapes my kiss-swollen lips and turn to Tucker, awaiting his
wrath. He returns Ransom’s intent stare, his expression unreadable. Yet, the
younger man doesn’t back down, cocking a challenging brow at Tuck’s silence. He
remains unmovable, a master at the art of restraint from his years as a shrink.
No doubt he’s had to answer some odd questions, but never any involving his
wife.

“I don’t let Heidi do anything. She has
her own mind…her own body.”

“So maybe I should be asking her.” A sinister smile on his lips, Ransom angles his
focus on me. “Heidi, would you let me touch you?”

My first reaction is to say no—hell no.
But Tucker quickly grasps my knee, capturing my attention.

“This is what you want,” he whispers. “He…is what you want. And I can accept that.
This is your fantasy, baby. Let me help you make it come true.”

I search his face, waiting for him to break into laughter, but he’s completely
serious. My husband is telling me to let another man put his hands on me—his
wife. This isn’t right. This isn’t what married people are supposed to do. But
even as that rational part of my brain lists all the reasons why I shouldn’t
allow this to go any further, my body is already tingling with anticipation. My
face and chest are flush. My nipples harden in exhilaration. And my mouth
waters with the prospect of tasting Ransom’s skin.

Oh, God. I do want this. And now the
decision is mine and mine alone.

“So?” Ransom asks, awaiting our fate.

Say no.

Say no.

Grab Tucker’s hand and get the fuck
out of here. Go home and make love to him. Let that kind, good, gentle man be
enough.

Once again, Ransom Reed steals the truth from my lips, forcing me to abandon all
decency and sanity. Making me take the sanctity of my marriage and soil it with
my own slick arousal.

In one single breath, I shatter ten years of devotion, trust and love. And although I
know what I’m destroying by lighting this fire, I can’t do much more than stand
back and watch it all go up in flames.

“Yes.”

Fearless #2(Can be read as Standalone)
Publication:May 25th 2015
Publisher:S.L. Jennings
Genre:New Adult,Contemporary Romance,Dark,Abuse
Purchase:Amazon

I’d like to tell you that I’m ok.

That the meaningless sex with countless women has somehow numbed the pain. That it’s deciphered the constant confusion in my head. Eased the self-hatred that sinks into my gut every time I look in the mirror.

I’d like to tell you that time heals all wounds.
That we evolve and grow into well-adjusted, stable adults, set on a path to right the world’s wrongs. That we are not our past…we are not our pain.

I want to tell you all those things. Hell, I want to believe all those things. But I’d be lying. I’m good at that. Living a lie is the only way I truly know how to survive.
But the day I saw her, I stopped surviving. I stopped existing. And for the first time in 24 years, I started living.

She brought me back to life. Set me free and sent my soul soaring. Made this useless shell of a man feel like…something. Something whole and real and good.

She saved me.
Although she believes I wasn’t even worth saving.

From the author of New York Times Bestseller, Fear Of Falling, comes a spin-off standalone about friendship, healing and learning to love through forgiveness.

This book nearly killed me. I don’t like to read books that have abuse in but this book was absolutely amazing! Afraid to Fly is moving, sweet, hot, sexy. My feelings was all over the place when I read this book but my feelings should be all over the place to be an amazing book! When I first read Fear of Falling, I remember that I was intrigued by Kami’s best friend Dom. He was so kind and supportive with Kami, even though he had a lot of issues he needed to deal with. I wanted to know what those issues were so when I heard that is getting his own book I was really happy about it. I want to know what made him tick. I loved this book more than FoF.

“What was wrong cannot be made right. What was broken cannot be fixed. What was dirty cannot be erased.”

My heart broke for Dom, for what he had to survive when he was a kid, no one and I really mean no one should experience anything like that! Dom did not cope the healthiest way but he did cope in the best way he could. That is the reason he has so much sex, so he can cope. It is unhealthy but Dom is a real stand up guy! I really admire Dom, he took the bad thing that happened to him and decided to devote his life to make sure the same thing does not happen to other children. He is unselfish and giving!

“Desire is just concentrated madness of the body and soul,” she whispered. “Do you want my crazy?” “Yes,” I replied too quickly to stop myself.

I did not understand why Raven hated him so much in the beginning. Raven has a past as well, it’s different but it’s still a hard past for her. She works two jobs to support her brother, whom Dom is mentoring. Toby, Raven’s brother is a real special character, I loved him. There are so many wonderful characters in this book! I always wondered what Raven’s real motivations were because I was scared she was going to really break him further. Once I knew her, she started to click….. I started to understand her, thankfully so because I started loving her.

Not falling for her wasn’t an option, because I had already fallen. Fallen deep and hard and fast. Too fast.

This is about finding love and happiness. All these characters aren’t just friends but actually family, they would support each other and love each other! Just like FoF I loved the relashionship Kami, Angel, and Dom had with each other. Raven started to trust Dom and they became friends and then started dating. These two loved each other before they even knew about it…  When they finally trusted each other completely, the relationship became more glorious.

“I don’t care about the sins of your body. I only see the light of your soul and the fullness of your heart.”- Kami

This story was raw, full of emotion and it was real and a lot of times so intense. I love the strength these characters had and how they fought to overcome all there issues and to overcome all their pasts. Ms Jennings’s writing is just so wonderful and raw and she exels into writing such emotional stories! This is such a powerful read that it will stay with me forever! This book has characters that are broken and damaged but they find a way to move past it! This is a book that I will highly recommend and I really hope there is going to be more books in this series! I really want to see that Angel is going to find happiness like Kami and Dom.

“You’re bigger than my fear, bigger than my pain. You’re the most perfect part of me.”
