One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

My Thoughts

This book was exciting with danger around every corner and enthralling. Jennifer wrote another magical master piece. She cast a spell on me from the beginning of the book till the very end. This will be a big rival to another enthralling series of hers and I think you can guess what series that is? You guessed it yes I’m talking about the Lux Series and the Covenant Series.
Daemon Black and Aiden St Delphi should make room for the very swoon worthy two new hunks on the block. Roth the sexy bad ass demon and Zayne the sexy gorgeousness warden. Fangirls get ready to swoon. Are you ready to fan yourself because Jennifer did it again she left me wanting for more and now I’m addicted to the book just like all her other books. The story is infused with that unique JLA wit, smart and sassy and bold, making our three main protagonists utterly unforgettable.
I loved every moment of the book….. well almost every moment, I cried at the end of the book.

“The newcomer stood well over six feet, as tall as any Warden. His hair was dark, the color of obsidian, and it reflected blue in the dim light. Lazy locks slipped over his forehead and curled just below his ears. Brows arched over golden eyes and his cheekbones were broad and high. He was attractive. Very attractive. Mind-bendingly beautiful, actually, but the sardonic twist to his full lips chilled his beauty. The black T-shirt stretched across his chest and flat stomach. A huge tattoo of a snake curled around his forearm, the tail disappearing under his sleeve and the diamond-shaped head rested on the top of his hand. He looked my age. Total crush material—if it wasn’t for the fact that he had no soul.”

We all met Layla and Zayne in Bitter Sweet Love and we all know what she can do. Layla has a big crush on her adoptive brother Zayne but they cant be together because of her power of sucking out a person soul if she tries to kiss them. She has grown up with the wardens despite them being her only family she still dont feel like she actually can belong there, because of her being half demon so she could never mate with any warden and she cant change like the wardens can.

“I would never truly be a part of the Wardens. And no matter how badly I wanted it, I’d never really be their family.”

The clan let Layla tag demons in the day after school, a single touch will light up the demons for the wardens to hunt in the night. It was all safe for her until one fateful night she runs into a demon that was looking for her. She never expected to encounter yet another demon- an upper-level one- to help her get away from the near- death situation. In walks the swagger and sexiness, confident and power personified and clearly most importantly trouble. But when trouble, namely Roth, shows up  at her school the next day means that trouble cant be avoided.

Roth is a great character. Later we learn that his multi dimensional with more that meets the eyes. He is witty and self confided and all in Layla’s business. The chemistry between the two is immediate, there verbal warfare only making whats to come more better. I found Roth with his unique charm endearing and funny, he is a total bad boy.

“For the love of all unholy things, why must you be so difficult? I apologized for calling you a prude. I’ll even apologize for yesterday. I scared you. I threw your cell in a toilet. See, I was raised in Hell. You could say I’m socially awkward.”

With Roth never leaving her alone meaning they got closer than ever. Roth questions her unwavering resolve of denying her demon blood. Roth also has answers for her about her mother that the wardens wont tell her and after she found out who her mother was and why all the demons are trying to kill/ kidnap her to start the coming of the apocalypse she gets protection from the demon Roth where she would never have gotten from the wardens. The wardens keeping secrets from her pushed her more to lie and help Roth with her safety.

The more truths are revealed, the more she finds herself lying to the only people she’s loved in her life. Nothing seems clear. Nothing is certain. And suddenly she finds her relationship with Zayne strained, particularly since Danika (Jasmine’s sister from Bitter Sweet Love) has been around. Everything is changing, what was once crisp and certain is blurring and it saddens her to be determinedly reminded that Zayne and her, although living under the same roof, are worlds apart.

“There were so many things that made Zayne different from me. Sometimes it seemed like were were total opposites. Insecurities resurfaced like old friends you didn’t want to see. I wasn’t like Zayne. I could never be like him, no matter how hard I tried… Strange thing was, when I was with Roth I didn’t wander down this troubling road.”

Admittedly I started the book totally on Team Zayne but with all Roth’s charm, wit and his caring made me change directions instantly now I am on Team Roth. I fell in love with the inked bad boy demon from hell. He is good to Layla and they had me reaching for there happy ever after even with the odds against them. As truths continued to pour on all sides with the world suddenly in play, she finds herself a mayor player in in the game. The story heightens to an action packed fight between good and evil that had me biting my nails in anxiety and then BAM. Shattered.

Lets just say that I needed Stone Cold Touch yesterday already. I don’t know how to feel with the ending with the story that sifted completely at the end. So Yeeah I get invested in all of JLA’s books!
I dont know what to expect with the next book but I need it now!!!

“I lost myself the moment I found you.”

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

My Thoughts

This book had me on the edge of my seat, chills running down your spine and you’ll feel like you aren’t able to read fast enough. It was captivating and this book was totally fitting when it said that the book to be Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars sometimes it reminded me of The Lying Games to. This book would be a huge treat for all those who love Jennifer L. Armentrout’s book; (someone like me 😉 who is obsessed with all of JLA’S books and when I got an ARC I was so happy about it); I literally could not put it down. That’s why this book should get not just a 5 star review but a 6 star review.

So be prepared when you start the book that you won’t be able to put it down and I advise you should not start it before bed because you will not sleep that night. I fell head first into Sam’s story so yeah the story did not start of slowly for me. I have read lots of books with characters that captivated me but it was nothing like this, I felt crazy right along with Sam and you tried to think all the different things at what might have happened that night but you could never figure out what happened right up until the end.

Jennifer leaves you second guessing yourself throughout the whole book. This book was a perfect pace, there was never a lull in the book and never too much going on that you get confused. I never wished for more or something to happen differently. Now when it comes to the characters then I can say is that you will love them all.

Samantha was just the perfect lead in the book, she was so real and I cheered her on while she had amnesia especially when she turned her back on her old life.  Scott and Julie are amazing and supportive and I wished I had a twin brother like Scott. He is fiercely protective over his sister and there relationship is just so special and he is not like how normal brothers are. Wish I could say anything without giving away spoilers……. Now we come to Carson, he is also fiercely protective and he trust Sam with everything. He helps her figure out what happened that night. I swooned every time he was on the page and I might add he is H.O.T.  Breathtakingly so!!!!

For once I wish we can give more than 5 stars because this was a real amazing book.

Oblivion is the hotly-anticipated follow-up to New York Timesbestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s megaselling Lux series, written from the point of view of Daemon Black.

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.
And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.

But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can’t stop myself from wanting her – or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy – the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.

Falling for Katy – a human – won’t just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen…

Re-live the thrilling, pulse-pounding action and epic romance of Daemon and Katy’s story all over again.

review

5+ Rating

“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect. The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”

Let me tell you one thing. This novel was a gift to all Daemon Black fans! I absolutely adore the Lux Series and Daemon is just my top favourite book boyfriend! Now if you don’t know by now Jennifer is one of my absolute favorite authors so when I heard about Oblivion… I sort of freaked and I wanted the book the moment I heard about it which meant the wait was torture! Now Oblivion was written in Daemon’s POV and let me just say WOW! I FELL DEEPER IN LOVE WITH DAEMON! ❤  I was in heaven the moment I started this novel! This novel is such a treasure and I still wish for my own Daemon Black! Here we not only got Daemon’s POV from Obsidian but we also got Onyx and Opal! WOW. Just wow…. I’m struggling to put my feelings into words right now! I thought waiting awhile before I review should make it easier for me but no I was hugely mistaken!

“Huh. Perhaps I was a bit too much of a dick the first two times I talked to her. Good thing she didn’t know I briefly considered burning her house down.”

I never thought I would like the Daemon’s POV of Obsidian, Onyx and Opal more than Katy’s but I did. Maybe that was because Blake was more in Katy’s book than Daemon’s and I did loathe Blake! I still do and Kat was a total idiot when it came to trusting Blake!!!!!! Anyway as you remember in the beginning of Obsidian Daemon was one of the biggest douche’s I have ever heard of but that was obviously a reason to it. He was unapologetic about being a jerk because he was doing it for everyone’s best interest. Daemon is cocky, powerful, intelligent and downright sexy. He is fearless and sarcastic and his been given a horrible hand when it comes to his loss and family is the most important thing to him. I mean nothing else matters more than his family. He would do absolutely everything for his sister Dee even be extremely mean to his new neighbour Katy, telling her to stay away from Dee. What made him this great guy in my eyes? Well that is his protectiveness and his sense of responsibility. We all know now that Dee hiding his car keys to talk to Katy was a total lie and only an excuse to talk and be with her.

Daemon’s POV gives us the insight at how hard he fought against getting to know Katy and despite his resistance, he was the one who made mistakes and put Katy in danger, not Dee like worried about. I loved seeing the interaction he had with Dee and Adam and how much he missed Dawson. I also found out that Dee told Adam before all the others knew about Katy.  While Daemon isn’t one of those guys who would talk about his feelings, he is most definitely the guy you want on your side when it comes to defending and protecting. You figure out soon enough that Daemon has no patience what so ever and if he does not tolerate anyone’s crap. Trust me a mad Daemon is on scary Daemon- which means his enemies should run the other way the moment they see an angry Daemon!!!

“And because I was competing for world’s biggest dumbass, I stayed out there, in the trees, stomach grumbling like a damn engine, and helped her carry in box after box without her even knowing.”

The moment I started with this novel… my love for Daemon Black was rekindled tenfold. Like I said before he is cocky, powerful, intelligent and downright sexy but he is also arrogant, lovable, loyal, courageous, snarky and I felt a part of this story! I loved that inner dialogue he had with himself. I loved readings about the scenes that Katy was not involved in from Obsidian and I enjoyed getting to know more about the Thompsons. I especially loved the beginning when Daemon first saw Katy and what he first thought and did about her. He became like a total stalker in the beginning. I’m glad that JLA touched all of the most important scenes from the Lux series but I loved all the extra scenes so much more!!! This novel was all Daemon! We got to see him on a deeper lever and learn so much more about his motivations, fears, and desires. I loved seeing how he thrive on getting Katy all riled up and bringing out her claws. 😛 It was one turn on for him and he became a master at pushing her buttons. I loved seeing how hard he fought to stay away from her yet all that fighting was useless she had a strong pull on him. Katy just crept under that enclosed bubble he had around him. We saw how much he regretted hurting Katy in the beginning and he felt the pain of it too. Now trust me as a reader it was such a privilege seeing Daemon fall in love with Katy before he even realized it. Matthew is the one who saw it first. They are the ultimate perfect couple.

“Katy. Her name was Katy. Reminded me of Kitty. Kitty cat. Kitten. Look at me, putting all these words together.”

What can I say a guy like Daemon thrives on a challenges and he has met his match when it came to Katy because she would not back down. Also seeing Daemon transform into the guy that loves Katy more than anything and there isn’t anything he would not do for her! What else can I say? I loved being in Daemon’s head! I loved all his attitude moments, sweeter moments and even the moments when he berated himself for his attitude and sweet moments! Still one of my favorites scenes is the spaghetti scene! I mean how did I forget about that scene?!

Everything about Oblivion was truly perfect and amazing! All I need now is to find myself a Daemon Black! Oblivion was romantic, swoon-worthy, addictive and so exhilarating! This was the perfect novel for Lux Fans and you don’t want to miss out on this novel! Trust me you will fall harder and deeper for Daemon, as he shows us all those sides of himself! This novel  deserves me than a 5 rating!

“I knew right then I would burn down the whole universe for her if I had to. I would do anything to keep her safe. Kill. Heal. Die. Anything. Because she was my everything.”

EXCERPT

I cradled my drink as Cam sauntered back to the pool tables. My mind wasn’t made up on the whole visiting them thing yet. Maybe I would. Maybe I wouldn’t.
“Want another rum and coke?”
My lips curled up at the sound of Nick’s rich, deep voice. We’d been chatting on and off since I plopped my butt down on the stool, and he had seemed happy that I was there.
Total bonus points lottery with this guy.
“I’m good, but thanks.” The last thing I wanted to be was drunk. I smiled at him, pleased when his heavily hooded gaze dipped again. “Are you guys usually this busy on the weekend?”
I could see that small talk was something Nick excelled at, which made sense, considering his occupation. He was an equal opportunity charmer. Women flocked to him at the bar. The other bartender, the girl with the pink glasses, seemed to take it all in stride.
“Not sure if you really call this busy, but Saturdays usually bring a larger crowd.” He glanced down the bar before continuing. “So you went to school with them?” he asked, jerking his chin in the direction Cam had roamed off to.
“Yeah.” Leaning forward, I placed my elbows on the bar. “I had no idea they had connections here. Total surprise.”
“Small world,” he said, echoing my earlier thought. “But you’re not very close with them.”
It was a statement, not a question. “What makes you think that?”
“Well, if you were, I guess you’d be over there with them. Or …”
Nick was observant. “Or what?”
One side of his lips curled up as he folded his arms across his chest. The movement drew my attention. I was such a visual creature. Not that anyone would blame me right now. The black shirt he wore stretched around well-defined biceps. “Or you’d rather spend the time with me.”
The twisty motion in my belly cranked up a notch. “Am I that transparent?”
“In the best possible way.” He picked up a bottle. “I’m glad you did stop by. Every time the door opened last night, I looked up and hoped it was you.”
“Is that so?”
“I speak the truth.” His smile was lazy. “Did you finish unpacking?”
“Yep.”
“Were there any more rat bastard combinations?”
I laughed. “There were a few more.”
“Kind of mad I missed out on them.”
“There’s always later.” I toyed with my glass as I met and held his stare. “So, Nick, do you have a last name?”
“Blanco,” he replied after a brief hesitation. “Do you?”
“Keith.” I grinned as he unfolded those arms. “I have another question for you.”
Moving in, he placed his hands on the bar. “Ask away.”
“Do you have a girlfriend?” My breath caught a little when he leaned in suddenly. Our mouths were close enough that we were breathing the same tiny patch of oxygen. “Or a boyfriend?”
Nick didn’t bat an eyelash. “Nope to both. How about you?”
Bonus points explosion!
“None,” I said, welcoming the tingle that swirled down my spine as his breath warmed my lips.
He tilted his head to the side, lining up his mouth with mine with just a fraction of an inch between us. I started to feel a little flushed. “You have plans tonight, Stephanie Keith?” he asked, voice deeper and rougher.
I shook my head as my pulse tripped all over itself in a happy little dance.
Nick’s grin spread into the kind of smile I knew left a trail of women in its wake. “You do now.”

Synopsis

Some loves will last ’til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

review5+ Rating

This book I have been dying to read since the moment I finished Stone Cold Touch and I can say it delivers everything that I hoped for! This book has humor, emotion, suspense and just the amazing swoon factor! This was a wonderful book that was so satisfying in the end, it was also so much fun reading this book! The ending was just WOW! A perfect ending I might say and oh wow did I swoon in this book!

As always Armentrout’s style of writing made me devour these books because I read it in less than one day! This book had so many surprises that I did not expect….. And like I said before the final plot twist was just wow so much happened in that plot twist! Of course you would find out Layla’s choice between the sexy swoon worthy rough around the edges Prince of Hell; Roth or the gorgeous hunk and her ever loyal forever crush; Zayne. Who do you think she chose? I can tell you that we find out soon, we don’t have to wait long to find out and I’m over the moon with joy with the person she chose! I loved him since the first book! Layla changed so much in the course of the books that’s most probably because she was betrayed by those she loved. She should have been safe with the people who took her in and sheltered but instead they hunted her and held her captive.

All the stakes have never been higher with a Lilin running around town, he is set on freeing Lilth to wreak havoc on the world. People are dying, wraiths are being formed and everyone is always in danger. Layla carried so much responsibility on her shoulders but before she can save the world she knows she has to follow her heart! She needs to spend so much time with the man she truly loves and she had to break the other guys heart. Talk about so much feels!!

The story unravels with so much suspense and action that escalated to the breaking point. There were truths that have been revealed, promises that were fulfilled (one promise that was very dangerous) and choices made in a split second choice! Talk about all those has my heart pounding as fast while I sat on the edge of my bed trying to finish this book. I would not go to bed until I finished this book! We meet new characters that I loved and some scary guys….. Those who run the shows in the pits of hell.

As one huge fan of all of Armentrout’s books, I can tell you that I thought she ended this book perfectly!  This book had a perfect mix of romance ( swoon worthy) and suspense with so much emotions running rampart. I just could not get enough of this book! This review was real hard to write because all I want to do is talk about everything and it is very hard not giving away anything! All I can say is I love this series and that Armentrout is my queen!
